 

#  Alan D'Andrea Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences 

 





Faculty recognized for accomplishments in biological sciences, public policy

Three Harvard Medical School faculty members have been elected to the [American Academy of Arts and Sciences](https://www.amacad.org/news/new-member-announcement-2026) Class of 2026 for distinguished accomplishments in biological sciences and public policy.

Established in 1780, the Academy recognizes accomplished individuals and engages them in addressing the challenges facing the nation. This year, the Academy extended membership to leaders in academia, the arts, industry, journalism, philanthropy, policy, research, and science. International Honorary Members were elected from 14 countries.

“The founding of the nation and the Academy are rooted in the inextricable links between a vibrant democracy, the free pursuit of knowledge, and the expansion of the public good,” said Academy President Laurie Patton.

“We celebrate the achievement of each new member and the collective breadth and depth of their excellence,” Patton added.

The newly elected members from HMS are:

- [Alan D’Andrea](https://www.dandrealab.org/), the HMS Alvan T. and Viola D. Fuller American Cancer Society Professor of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
- [Richard Frank](https://hcp.hms.harvard.edu/people/richard-g-frank), the Margaret T. Morris Professor of Health Care Policy, Emeritus, at HMS
- [Judy Garber](https://connects.catalyst.harvard.edu/Profiles/display/Person/646), HMS professor of medicine at Dana-Farber
