We are interested in understanding mechanisms of intracellular transport. Coat proteins play a key role in this process by initiating the formation of transport carriers. We have been elucidating how coat proteins cooperate with key lipids to form the two general classes of transport carriers, vesicles and tubules. We have also identified a novel coat complex that acts in endocytic recycling, a pathway critical for many cellular events. The fundamental mechanisms that we have elucidated have also led us to shed key insights into energy metabolism, cancer, diabetes, and viral pathogenesis.
