We study immune signaling pathways to understand the role of innate immune cells in liver diseases. Our studies focus on molecular mechanisms of inflammation and immune signaling in the intestine, liver and brain in animal models and in patients with chronic liver diseases. Our recent interest is in the role of extracellular vesicles and microRNAs in cell-to cell and inter-organ communication and in biomarker discovery. We aim to discover new pathways that can be targeted to develop new therapies in alcohol- or metabolic syndrome- related organ damage using state-of-the-art approaches in translational research.
