After latest study, his inbox exploded: ‘I try to get back to everybody … I try to provide hope.’

Bruce Yankner has had a busy few months.

In August 2025, his team published a study in Nature showing that lithium is a natural, biologically important element in the brain that has the potential to prevent or even reverse Alzheimer’s disease. The findings mark a potentially major leap in understanding a disease that affects more than 50 million people worldwide and that so far has proved frustratingly difficult to treat.
