11 Harvard Medical School Researchers, Educators Elected to National Academy of Medicine

Faculty honored for achievements in biomedical science, patient care, health policy, medical education

BBS Faculty:

Kathleen Burns, HMS professor of pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, for work on transposable elements in human disease. Her discoveries have highlighted long interspersed nuclear element-1 (LINE-1) activity as a source of heritable genetic variation and a hallmark of cancers.

Anna Greka, HMS professor of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, for elucidating the molecular basis of kidney and genetic diseases, particularly those that disrupt fundamental mechanisms of protein trafficking and renal barrier function, and for translating these discoveries into targeted therapies.
